Bid Writer
Are you a natural storyteller who knows how to turn complex information into compelling content? Do you have a sharp eye for detail, a talent for asking the right questions and the ability to bring projects to life through words?
McNab is looking for a Bid Writer to join our team and play a key role in developing high-quality, client-focused submissions that help us win work.
This is more than simply writing tender responses. You’ll work alongside our Bid & Estimating teams and collaborate with Project Managers, Design Managers and subject matter experts across McNab to uncover the stories, insights and evidence that demonstrate why McNab is the right partner for our clients.
You’ll take technical information, project experience and complex delivery challenges and turn them into clear, persuasive and tailored submissions that connect with our clients and bring our point of difference to life.
About the Role
As a Bid Writer, you’ll be involved across the full bid lifecycle — from understanding an opportunity and developing the response strategy, through to writing, review, submission and post-tender activities.
You’ll work across a diverse range of opportunities including construction tenders, Expressions of Interest (EOIs), Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) submissions, government tenders, prequalification and capability statements.
You’ll become an expert at understanding what matters to each client and opportunity, identifying the strongest proof points and project examples, and shaping them into a compelling story.
This is a highly collaborative role. You’ll need to be comfortable picking up the phone or walking over to a Project Manager’s desk, asking questions, challenging the brief when needed and getting to the heart of what makes a project or team stand out.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop high-quality, compelling and tailored submissions across construction tenders, EOIs, ECI submissions, pre-qualifications and capability statements.
- Interpret tender requirements and translate client criteria, priorities and expectations into clear, persuasive responses.
- Work with our project teams and subject matter experts to uncover project insights, challenges, solutions, innovations and outcomes.
- Translate complex technical and operational information into engaging, client-focused content that is easy to understand and compelling.
- Research clients, projects, sectors and opportunities to strengthen submission content, positioning and win strategies.
- Develop executive summaries, methodologies, project experience, team capability, case studies and other key submission content.
- Contribute to bid strategy by developing win themes, key messages, proof points and compelling stories that demonstrate McNab’s value proposition and points of difference.
- Take ownership of allocated tender criteria and content packages, managing them from drafting through to review, refinement and finalisation.
- Work collaboratively with Bid Managers and internal stakeholders to coordinate content, manage deadlines and ensure submissions are delivered on time and to a consistently high standard.
- Build strong relationships across the group a, confidently engage stakeholders and proactively following up information required for submissions.
- Edit and proofread submissions and tender collateral to ensure they are accurate, consistent, professional, compliant and aligned with McNab’s brand and bid strategy.
- Maintain and continuously improve bid content library, including project sheets, case studies, capability statements, staff CV’s and reusable tender content.
- Contribute to client presentations, interview materials and other tender collateral, ensuring written content and visual storytelling work together to create a compelling submission.
- Maintain strong document control, bid tracking and CRM information while identifying opportunities to improve content, systems, templates and ways of working across the submissions function.
About you
You’re a confident and capable writer who knows how to turn complex information into a compelling story. You’re naturally curious, ask great questions and enjoy getting underneath a project to understand what makes it different.
You’ll bring:
- Proven experience in bid writing, submissions, proposals, communications or a similar role, ideally within construction, infrastructure, property, development or another technical environment.
- Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills, with a strong eye for detail.
- The ability to understand complex technical information and translate it into clear, concise and persuasive content.
- Strong storytelling skills, with the ability to identify the key message and bring project experience to life.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple submissions, competing priorities and tight deadlines without compromising quality.
- A proactive mindset and the confidence to seek out information, ask considered questions and follow up stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the business.
- A collaborative, team-first approach and the ability to work effectively across Construction, MBS and other areas of McNab.
- A commitment to producing high-quality work and tender collateral that reflects the professionalism and capability of McNab.
- Advanced Microsoft Word skills, with strong PowerPoint skills. Experience with InDesign is desirable.
- Experience with CRM, tender management, document management or collaboration platforms is advantageous.
- A qualification in Communications, Marketing, Business, Journalism or a related discipline is desirable, but equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
Most importantly, you’ll be someone who takes pride in producing work that is polished, persuasive and makes a difference to the outcome.
