McNab’s Data & Analytics team is growing, and we’re looking for a commercially minded Technical Business Analyst who can bridge the gap between business problems and modern data solutions.

This is not a traditional BA role focused purely on gathering requirements. We’re looking for someone who can think critically, challenge assumptions, work proactively with stakeholders, and help shape better outcomes across the business.

You’ll work closely with our Data Engineering and Data Applications teams to translate business needs into clear technical specifications, validate solutions through hands-on SQL analysis, and help drive projects from concept through to delivery. You’ll also have the opportunity to influence how data products are designed and adopted across the wider McNab Group.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys autonomy, thrives in fast-moving environments, and wants the freedom to experiment with new tools, technologies and approaches. With strong executive support behind our growing data and technology capability, you’ll have the opportunity to genuinely influence the direction of the function and broader business decision-making.

About the Role

As Group Financial Controller, you’ll take ownership of financial reporting, compliance and control environment, while also playing a key role in improving how finance supports the broader business.

You’ll sit at the centre of Finance providing clarity, clean and compliant reporting, and financial controls that scale with the Group.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Partner with business leaders, end users and technical teams to define requirements for data products, dashboards and applications.
  • Translate business requirements into clear technical specifications including source-to-target mappings, business rules and acceptance criteria.
  • Act as the key link between stakeholders, data engineers and developers to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Perform hands-on SQL validation, reconciliation and exploratory analysis across complex data environments.
  • Identify opportunities to improve business processes, data quality and reporting capability across departments.
  • Produce wireframes, mockups and prototypes to validate ideas and improve stakeholder engagement before development begins.
  • Help refine delivery processes, documentation standards and ways of working across the team.
  • Collaborate across multiple business functions including finance, operations, procurement and HR to understand how data can better support decision-making.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is naturally curious about how businesses operate and enjoys solving problems before they become problems.

You’ll likely bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in a Technical Business Analyst, Data Analyst, Analytics Engineer or similar role.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate confidently with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • The confidence to work independently, take ownership and drive outcomes without requiring close supervision.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to challenge requirements constructively.
  • Excellent documentation skills with experience producing detailed technical specifications and validation artefacts.
  • Hands-on SQL experience for data validation, profiling and reconciliation.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or GCP.
  • A collaborative mindset and genuine interest in helping teams across the business succeed.

Technical Skills:

  • Advanced SQL skills with experience interrogating complex data models and tracing data lineage.
  • Strong understanding of modern data warehousing and dimensional modelling concepts.
  • Experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence or Azure DevOps.
  • Experience producing wireframes and prototypes using tools such as Figma or AI-assisted tooling.
  • Familiarity with BI and data application platforms such as Streamlit, PowerBI or similar technologies.
