At Supplyhaus Steel, we specialise in providing full turnkey solutions for structural steel, encompassing planning, drafting, design, supply, fabrication, surface treatment, procurement, logistics, and installation. Our team has more than 100 years of combined experience and a proven record of delivering high-quality steel to the Australian market.
About the role
Due to continued growth, we are looking for a Contract Administrator to join our Supplyhaus Steel team. Working closely with the Steel Project Manager and broader team, you’ll play a key role in the commercial delivery of structural steel projects, from procurement and contract award through to fabrication, delivery and installation. This is an opportunity to take ownership of the commercial performance of projects while working across contracts, procurement, financial management, quality and project delivery within a growing and evolving part of the McNab Group.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the administration of head contracts, subcontracts and supplier agreements, including variations, claims, EOTs, notices, payment schedules, retentions and bank guarantees.
- Provide proactive commercial advice, identifying project risks, opportunities and areas for improved commercial outcomes.
- Lead procurement and tender processes, developing scopes and tender packages, reviewing submissions, conducting tender comparisons and supporting commercial negotiations and awards.
- Establish and manage project budgets, commitments, cost control, forecasting and cashflow, providing accurate visibility of financial performance.
- Prepare and administer progress claims and cost reports, supporting monthly project meetings and maximising the commercial and cashflow position of projects.
- Manage commercial arrangements with subcontractors, suppliers and international fabricators ensuring quantities, rates and contractual requirements are accurate and costs are appropriately tracked.
- Work closely with the Steel Technical team to ensure quality requirements, ITPs and QA/QC documentation are established, maintained and delivered.
- Manage project documentation and RFIs, ensuring drawings, specifications, reports and contractual records are accurately maintained and controlled in Procore.
- Coordinate steel, purlin and material sequencing with fabricators, riggers, installation contractors and the project team to support the delivery programme.
- Attend fabricator facilities, supplier offices and project sites as required to inspect works, monitor progress and ensure quality and programme requirements are maintained.
- Identify and resolve material discrepancies, fabrication issues and onsite clashes, working with relevant parties to minimise delays and improve project outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with drafting, fabrication, procurement and project teams to ensure commercial, contractual and project requirements are clearly understood and achieved.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of systems, processes and documentation across the Supplyhaus Steel business.
About you
You will be a commercially minded Contract Administrator who enjoys working in a technical, fast-paced environment and wants to take ownership of the commercial performance of steel projects.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience as a Contract Administrator within commercial construction, ideally managing projects from commencement through to completion.
- Experience administering head contracts, subcontracts and supplier agreements, including variations, claims and contractual notices.
- A sound understanding of building legislation and payment legislation, including BIFSPA.
- Experience with procurement and tendering, including developing scopes, reviewing submissions and negotiating commercial outcomes.
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, with experience in budgets, cost control, forecasting and cashflow.
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with confidence working with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal teams.
- The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to identify risks, challenge discrepancies and drive issues through to resolution.
- Experience with Jobpac and Procore would be highly regarded.
- Experience or an interest in structural steel, fabrication, procurement or installation would be advantageous.
Most importantly, you’re someone who takes ownership, enjoys solving problems and is motivated by delivering strong commercial outcomes.
