About us

BridgeFab, part of the McNab Group, delivers end-to-end steel management solutions—from drafting, 3D scanning and modelling, fabrication, to installation—all under one roof. We pride ourselves on providing safe, high-quality, and efficient steel solutions for our clients.

We are expanding our team and are seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to lead our steel fabrication and production function. This is a key leadership role where you will coordinate people, plant, materials, quality and workflow to deliver safe, efficient and high-quality output to meet project timeframes

About the role

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will take ownership of the day-to-day workshop plan and lead our team of boilermakers, welders, apprentices and labourers. Working in a fast-paced structural steel environment, you will set priorities, allocate labour, manage short-term and longer-term delivery targets, and keep production moving to critical dates.

You will be a strong 'player-coach' leader who builds accountability, motivates performance and creates a positive team culture. You will work closely with project, commercial, quality and supply teams to remove constraints, solve problems early and keep jobs on track.

Responsibilities include

  • Lead the workshop production plan, sequencing work and allocating resources effectively.
  • Build a clear, accountable and high-performing team culture.
  • Coach, support and develop the workshop team through regular communication and follow-up including a daily pre-start meeting.
  • Drive safety leadership, compliance and a strong 'Safety First, Quality Always' mindset.
  • Champion quality, manage defects early and ensure work is completed right the first time.
  • Coordinate job flow, materials, drawings, plant and labour to maintain productivity.
  • Monitor output, rework, waste, utilisation, costs and programme performance.
  • Work with stakeholders to resolve issues, manage risks and support successful delivery.

Approve timesheets, manage leave and ensure fatigue is considered in workforce planning.

About you

We are seeking a strong leader with significant experience in a workshop or production leadership role within structural steel that can motivate, influence and produce quality outcomes with safety always front of mine.

  • Strong knowledge of welding QA, fabrication standards and structural steel. Ideally you are a trade qualified Boilermaker and have progressed to Workshop Supervisor or similar role.
  • Highly organised with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, able to motivate, mentor, and hold others accountable to deliver successful project outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, planning and organisation skills.
  • A practical, solutions-focused mindset with a strong sense of urgency
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
  • A Construction White Card and driver’s licence.
  • Qualifications within AS1796 Certificate 10 or IW-B (preferred).
  • Please note that the successful candidate may need to undergo a pre-employment medical check
